Q: Donno, how does the team look so far and who has impressed you the most? -Jimmy in Kendall

A: Before I answer this let me remind everyone two very important things. 1- The media only gets a limited viewing period for individual drills. 2- Pads have not even come on yet!

With that out of the way, there are a handful of players who look sharp and have caught my attention.

Safety Kaleb Spencer- The 3-star early enrollee was one of Miami's more under-the-radar recruits but he looks physically mature compared to the freshmen I have watched in previous years in the spring period. When defensive coordinator Lance Guidry was asked about him, he reminded us that he can't truly gage his progress before pads come on but said he was impressed by Spencer's high school film and called him a big hitter. This guy could end up being really fun to watch!

QB Emory Williams- Another early enrollee who looks like a veteran, physically. The 3-star quarterback has massive legs, moves more quickly than I expected, and has thrown accurately in the drills we've watched.

WR Colbie Young- The 6-5 former junior college transfer is entering his second season with the Hurricanes. He looks leaner and faster than last season. He could be a candidate to break out as WR1.

WR Isaiah Horton- Same situation as Young. Horton, 6-4, looks sharp in drills. He was seldom used as a true freshman last year but this could be a breakout campaign for him in 2023.

QB Tyler Van Dyke & RB Don Chaney Jr. - I lump them together here because it's just so nice watching both of them out on the field healthy after suffering from the injury bug last year. TVD spoke to us after Saturday's practice. He is ready for a bounce back season after 5-7.

After the third practice on Thursday, I will cover standouts on the offensive and defensive lines.
