Two Miami Hurricanes Named Among Most Impactful 'Super Seniors'
College Football is filled with fifth and sixth year seniors since the Covid season of 2020 didn't count against anyone's eligibility.
Many of the players from that era are heading into their last dance in 2024. Carter Bahns from 247Sports put together his list of the most impactful "super seniors" in CFB.
Two Miami Hurricanes, wide receiver Xavier Restrepo and quarterback Cam Ward, made his list. They were both part of the recruiting class of 2020.
On Restrepo:
Miami’s lack of team success allowed Xavier Restrepo to fly under the radar as one of the nation’s quietest 1,000-yard receivers last season. Now, with an upgrade at quarterback, the fifth-year Hurricane has as much statistical upside as any receiver in the country. He will be the focal point of an offense that should be far more explosive than last year, and he was already highly productive with 85 total receptions — good for 18th nationally.
On Ward:
Putting the NFL on hold for one more year was a big decision for Cameron Ward, who may instantly become the ACC’s top quarterback after transferring to Miami from Washington State. His arrival might just be what finally turns the Hurricanes around and is the primary reason why they rank well inside next season’s way-too-early top 25. Ward emerged onto the scene after a 47-touchdown sophomore year at Incarnate Word and made the leap to the FBS level in 2022. His production in essentially every category improved during his second year at college football’s highest subdivision and could peak next fall.
Bahns' picks weren't listed in any particular order. Other ACC players who earned mention were Louisville edge rusher Tyler Baron and Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagaleilei. Miami will face them both this October.
