The Miami Hurricanes still have some areas of need that they would like to address through the Transfer Portal.

With Nick Saban retiring, players from Alabama could soon become available. We are still waiting to see how the dust settles there. The change in leadership allows Crimson Tide players a new 30 day window to enter the portal. We'll be watching players Miami recruited heavily like running back Kevin Riley and defensive back Zay Mincey

My understanding is that the Hurricanes would still be interested in former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa if he can obtain a waiver from the NCAA to play an additional season. He submitted his request last week and there is no timeline or deadline for their decision. If cleared, he could serve as an experienced one-year starter before one of Miami's young signal callers are ready to take over in 2025.

We broke down Miami's portal needs, quarterback room, and 2025 recruiting notes on my Locked On Canes podcast. Colleague Brian Smith joined me:

Liberty wide receiver CJ Daniels is someone that Miami has reported interest in.

The Hurricanes could use another experienced defensive back or two. The current options in the portal are slim. Waiting for the spring widow to open could be necessary. Miami did add Vanderbilt safety Savion Riley in December.

Brian and I also took a look at an impressive list of confirmed and rumored visitors for Miami's Junior Day on January 27th. Big names from the class of 2025 will be on campus including top linebackers Zayden Walker, Jadon Perlotte (UGA commit), TJ Alford, and Elijah Melendez (Miami commit).

Miami linebackers coach Derek Nicholson continues to do an incredible job in recruiting. He continues to get Miami into the mix with top players.
