Miami Hurricanes Get Cam Ward's First Transfer Portal Visit And This Is Significant | Donno's View

The Hurricanes will try and put themselves firmly in the drivers seat to land their top quarterback option.
In this story:

Landing Washington State transfer quarterback Cam Ward is the top priority for the Miami Hurricanes. Ward has also been linked to significant interest from Ohio State, Florida State, Washington, USC and others.

His first campus visit since entering the transfer portal will be to the University of Miami. Don't let anyone tell you that getting his first visit isn't a big deal for the Hurricanes. It is.

Ward will arrive on campus in the mid-afternoon on Tuesday. Mario Cristobal and his staff have a significant opportunity to seal the deal.

I believe Miami to be in the drivers' seat. Things can change, but getting the first visit is massive. It's my understanding that Ward and Miami have had an open dialogue since he entered the portal last week.

By now, Ward must have a clear expectation as to what Miami can offer him on the field, in the classroom, and in Name Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. It's important for Ward to get a first person view of Miami's facilities and get some face time with coaches before he makes up his mind.

Transfers are usually on an accelerated timeline compared to high school recruits, meaning they don't typically take a visit unless they consider that destination to be a realistic one.

Plus, Ward does not have additional visits finalized at this time. He is reportedly evaluating Florida State and others for potential visits later this week, but as far as we know, plans are not set in stone yet outside of his Tuesday trip to Coral Gables.

In the meantime, Florida State is planning to host Oregon State transfer and former Clemson Tiger DJ Uiagalelei this weekend.

I can assume Miami would love to get an answer from Ward on Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning before he leaves town. If he departs without committing, all eyes will be on what he does next and where he decides to go. For today, the Hurricanes will attempt to close the deal before shifting their focus to alternate targets.
