Miami Hurricanes Have New Wide Receiver Options Emerging In The Transfer Portal
Miami Hurricanes fans have no choice but to exercise patience during the current Transfer Portal period.
While Sunday, April 30th was the deadline for players to enter the portal, commitments to their next destination do not have to be made until academic enrollment deadlines come about, typically late in the summer.
Wide receiver is a position where Miami has been actively sniffing around. There are some new names to watch.
UTSA's Zakhari Franklin
This G5 standout is looking to make a jump into the Power Five for his final year of eligibility. Franklin is a two-time First Team All Conference USA selection.
He's been extremely productive, setting UTSA receiving records left and right.
In 2022, Franklin caught 93 passes for 1137 yards and 15 touchdowns. In 2021, he caught 81 passes for over 1,000 yards and 12 touchdowns.
If Miami can add Franklin, he could compete for a starting job at outside receiver. At the very least, he would add quality depth.
Michigan State's Keon Coleman
Coleman entered the portal on deadline day. I haven't been able to confirm that Miami is pursuing him but doing so seems like a no-brainer. Coleman was a starter at MSU.
He has elite size at 6-4, 215 lbs. Coleman put up excellent numbers in the Big 10 last year with 798 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. Coleman has top-line speed to go with his size. He was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2021 who also received Division 1 offers in basketball and baseball.
Ohio State's Kaleb Brown
Brown snuck into the portal less than two hours before the deadline. Miami should at least kick the tires on this one, but he ultimately might be too redundant with Miami's current group of slot receivers.
Brown stands 5-10.5 and 195 lbs. On paper he might be more of a slot type, and Miami already has plenty in that department between Xavier Restrepo, Brashard Smith, Ray Ray Joseph and Robby Washington.
Brown has all four years of eligibility remaining. He was a 4-star recruit in the class of 2022 and was apparently able use his redshirt last season.
Who's the best fit?
I also like Florida Gators transfer Xzavier Henderson, who visited Miami last week but hasn't made a decision yet. He's keeping his process very quiet and some suspect that other schools, like Louisville, could be in play in addition to Miami. Henderson has track-level speed and tons of potential.
Out of the names above, the one at the top of my wish list is Keon Coleman due to his proven production at the Power Five level and his NFL type size.
Zakhari Franklin is a close second for me. His numbers are eye-popping regardless of the competition level he faced.
