NFL Combine: Will Mallory & Tyrique Stevenson Representing Miami
With the Super Bowl behind us, the offseason has begun in the NFL and two Canes have accepted their call to the NFL Combine.
Will Mallory is a 6-5 245-pound tight end who was a 4-star recruit coming out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Providence and the 5th year senior made Canes history.
Miami has been dubbed “Tight End U” by many because of players like Bubba Franks, Jeremy Shockey, Greg Olsen, Jimmy Graham, and David Njoku, among others, with successful careers at Miami and in the National Football League.
Mallory has earned the right to be mentioned among them. Statistically, he finished his Miami career with 115 receptions, 1,544 yards, and tied for first all-time for Canes tight ends with 14 receiving touchdowns. Most scouts project Mallory to get the call on Day 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Keep an eye out for Denver as a potential landing spot, where his father Mike Mallory is an assistant special teams coach.
Another 4-star for the Canes that will be taken in the NFL Draft would be Tyrique Stevenson. He played his prep football at Miami (Fla.) Southridge. He was a bright spot for a struggling Canes defense these past two seasons.
The Georgia transfer was an All-ACC Honorable Mention in 2021 as a redshirt-sophomore, and followed it up with being Miami’s best cornerback this past season, and further elevated his NFL Draft stock with a strong Senior Bowl performance.
The NFL Draft evaluation process goes further than the in-season tape and Stevenson is off to a great start in this portion of it as he was a Senior Bowl standout.
When considering this upcoming NFL Combine overall for each of Mallory and Stevenson, the invitation probably means even more for the future NFL defensive back because a strong combine after his Senior Bowl performance could help him rise on NFL Draft boards, to potentially even make it into Round 1.
Per 247 Sports, The U has a strong NFL pipeline with 353 total players having been selected in the 2023 NFL Draft. Mallory and Stevenson will be next in line to add to the total.
