Miami Recruiting News And Notes

Discussing Miami recruiting targets and the latest intel
In this story:

Time to clear out the notebook for Miami recruiting information. This will be a list of prospects with data points – short or long – that dive into that prospect's situation. Here goes.

  • IMG Academy offensive lineman Kaden Strayhorn is a player Alex Mirabal and the Miami staff long ago began to recruit. He has a top-12 list with the Canes in the running. Here's my question. Does Miami focus on the first one or two interior offensive linemen that want to come to UM or does Mirabal and the Canes offensive staff wait it out for specific interior offensive line recruits? Strayhorn has tradition-rich programs like Texas, Alabama, Penn State, Michigan, Ohio State, and Tennessee on his list. How long will he wait out the process?
  • Wide receiver recruit Vernell Brown III is allegedly trending away from his father’s alma mater, Florida, and is certainly open to attending Miami. Take that as one will.
  • Quarterback Luke Nickel is now the #27 quarterback recruit by 247. Doing prospect rankings is really hard. That being the case, I cannot imagine 26 quarterbacks better than Nickel.
  • American Heritage running back Byron Louis is still considering several programs. After communicating with Byron at Miami Under Armour, as well as looking at Miami’s recent history with recruiting Broward County running backs, it’s hard to believe Miami will not at least be a finalist for his services. Watch out for FSU as well.
  • Cornerback DJ Pickett’s recruitment will be a marathon. That being the case, right now, LSU is probably the team to watch.
  • There had been buzz about UM getting Dallas Wilson back on campus at some point. I had not heard anything of late. That said, 247’s Gaby Urrutia just dropped an article stating Wilson will visit the Hurricanes on Friday. He’s the #22 prospect in the country, per 247. Having seen the Tampa (Fla.) Tech recruit several times, Wilson is a rangy wide receiver with unusual maneuverability in a crowd. He’s just as likely to house a screen as he is a go route.
  • While discussing big-bodied receivers, might as well bring up Joshua Moore from West Broward High School. He’s one of the most physically developed wide receivers in the country. Miami needs at least one pass catcher that plays the boundary spot and Moore could be the one in the 2025 class. He was tremendous at Miami Under Armour this past weekend.
  • Also at Under Armour, defensive tackle Myron Charles mentioned Miami, FSU, and UF are the three schools coming after him the hardest. He’s from Port Charlotte (Fla.) High School.
  • All that I’ve heard about linebacker Zayden Walker is that he will end up at Georgia. He is from Ellaville (Ga.) Schley County, so it’s not a surprise the Bulldogs are a strong contender. Going by Miami’s 2023 and 2024 classes, the Canes do come from behind to land recruits. Look at safety Zaquan Patterson. Miami won that battle at the very end.
