Miami Staffer Jon Williams Slated To Join Navy's Staff

Williams Will Move To An On-Field Role As Tight End Coach For The Midshipmen

Tuesday was fireworks for the Hurricanes, seeing two new coaches come in (Shannon Dawson and Derek Nicholson) and one coach depart (Kevin Smith to Ole Miss). The changes aren’t done this week however, as a key off-field staffer will be moving on and up.

According to Doug Samuels of footballscoop.com, Jon Williams will be taking on the role as tight ends coach at Navy. Williams served as a key off-field assistant on coach Mario Cristobal’s first year staff as Director of Football Operations and the Chief of Staff. In his role, he played a major part in the recruiting oversight for the Hurricanes, who finished with the ACC's #1 class.

Before Williams headed to Coral Gables, he’s had stops at Southern Miss, Rice, Birmingham Southern and Itawamaba CC in Mississippi to name a few.

At Rice, he served in a similar role to the one he held in Coral Gables, helping lead Rice to their highest-rated recruiting class in school history.

At Birmingham Southern, Williams served as the tight ends in 2019 and his efforts helped lead to school to a program record rushing attack.

Under head coach Todd Monken at Southern Miss, Williams served as assistant head coach, tight ends coach and director of player personnel helping turnaround the program.

It will be interesting to see who Miami ends up filling in for Williams' role, as he appeared to be a top option at his role given his track record. With the new staff coming in to Coral Gables, Hurricanes recruiting should be able to remain up-to-par.
