Miami's Wideouts Stole The Show In The Second Spring Practice

Xavier Restrepo Put The Indoor Facility On Notice With A Spectacular Grab To Highlight Wednesday's Practice

If media was allowed to record the wide receiver and defensive backs one-on-ones this morning, the internet might have exploded.

The second day of viewing for Miami's spring football practices showed a lot of everyone but the quarterbacks. While day one showed a lot of Cam Ward, today provided a glimpse at other positions such as cornerbacks, safeties, offensive linemen and wide receivers.

Looking at the cornerbacks, Miami is thin this spring as only four corners were practicing with new defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson. The four included Daryl Porter Jr., Jadais Richard, Demetrius Freeney and Myles Mooyoung. Jackson spent some time working on getting his corners low and working on their footwork moving backwards. Jackson seems to be viewed well by his players so far as he's getting adjusted to Miami.

In terms of the linemen, Miami's first group today featured (from left to right) Jalen Rivers, Luis Cristobal Jr., Zach Carpenter, Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy. While it is expected that Freshman All-American tackle Francis Mauigoa will take McCoy's spot when he returns for fall camp, it seems as if Cristobal Jr. is receiving the majority of reps as the first team left guard through the start of spring.

Lastly, the wide receivers stole the show at the end of the viewing period today. Without the ability to film/photograph, you have to take the word of those inside the building to tell you that the receivers impressed. Xavier Restrepo has made the two best catches so far this spring, adding today a touchdown catch on Mishael Powell where he drew the flag while contorting to catch the ball. Several of the coaches sprinted down the field to celebrate after the catch.

Additionally, freshmen Ny Carr and Joshisa "JoJo" Trader impressed as well. Carr ended the final viewing period with a touchdown on Richard while Trader blew past his defender twice on the far sideline for a pair of touchdowns. Trader has been a popular buzz name since he arrived on campus, and his performance today definitely helps his chances of getting on the field.

Shannon Dawson as well as several student-athletes will speak to the media later this morning so stay tuned for updates there.
