Reports Showing Marshall's Chevis Jackson Is Set To Fill Miami's Void As Defensive Backs Coach

Jackson Worked Under Lance Guidry In 2022, And Now They'll Be Back Together In Coral Gables

With Jahmile Addae now off to the NFL, Lance Guidry brought in a familiar face to fill the void for the Hurricanes.

According to multiple reports (first reported by CaneSport, as well as by the Miami Herald), Marshall defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson is expected to be the hire to fill Miami's void as defensive backs coach. Jackson and Guidry worked together for one season in 2022 before Guidry went on to join Miami for the 2023 season.

Jackson, a former player, spent four seasons at LSU before being drafted in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft. Jackson was a part of the 2007 National Championship team and was second on the team in interceptions with five. He'd go on to spend three seasons in the NFL before getting his start in coaching in 2013 as a graduate assistant at South Alabama.

While Jackson hasn't worked at many big-time programs as a positional coach, his success as a player should be able to assist him in recruiting the top defensive backs in the nation. While he didn't reach the same level in the pros as Jason Taylor did, he'll be able to command the respect in the defensive back room with his success at the collegiate level.

As it stands now, Miami's coaches are all filled after the departures of Addae and Tim Harris Jr. this offseason. Spring ball is set to get underway in the coming weeks.
