Where Does Miami's Cam Ward Rank Among College Football's Top Transfer Quarterbacks?
Miami transfer quarterback Cam Ward has been recognized as a top mover in this busy portal season of 2024.
Ward, a sixth year senior, threw for an impressive 3,735 yards with 25 touchdown passes to just 7 interceptions last year with the Washington State Cougars. Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal hopes Ward will stabilize Miami's quarterback situation after erratic play from Tyler Van Dyke last season. Van Dyke, now at Wisconsin, threw 12 interceptions in ten starts last year. His dozen picks ranked 9th most most in America.
247Sports have just updated their transfer player rankings. They rank Ward fourth within their new top ten for the quarterback position with four stars and a 0.94 (out of 1.0) rating.
Based on who ranks ahead of Ward, you can assume that he is the one expected to make the most impact in the upcoming 2024 season. In front of Ward are Ohio State's Julian Sayin, Michigan State's Aidan Chiles, and Oregon's Dante Moore. Sayin is entering his first collegiate season while Chiles and Moore are heading into their second. None of these top three are expected to start this season while Ward certainly is at Miami.
Miami's top rival, the Florida State Seminoles, will also start a transfer quarterback in 2024. Former Clemson and Oregon State signal caller DJ Uiagalelei arrives in Tallahassee ranked 12th with four stars and a 0.91 rating. Ward and DJ will go head to head in Miami on October 26th.
