In this story:

The state of Florida has seen hotly contested recruiting battles for decades, and it’s honestly only intensified over the course of the last few years.

With those recruitments have often been prospects that changed their minds about where they would eventually play their college football. In fact, the state of Florida has one of the most volatile decommitment rates in the country.

Or does it?

By using the On3 Florida consensus rankings, here’s a look at how many of the class of 2023 top 25 state of Florida recruits made a commitment that ended with that same player signing with the school originally committed to.

Total flips: Six prospects made public commitments and then signed elsewhere, for 24%.

Top 10 flips: Ironically, five of the six happened with prospects ranked inside the top 10, for 50%.

Teams that lost commitments: Florida State (2), Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma.

Honestly, the overall number was not nearly as high as it could have been. Several prospects were receiving heavy recruiting attention up until the moment they signed their letters of intent. Thus, that percentage could have been much higher.

This was just the first 25 prospects, however, and the next 75 will be listed soon. A closer look at those prospects might find an even higher number of flips.

All Hurricanes will be continuing the look back with the rest of the top 100 early next week.
