In the world of college football recruiting, few names shine as brightly as Byron Louis, a 4-star running back hailing from Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage.

With the 2025 class loaded with talent, Byron has emerged as one of the best in his position. I had the opportunity to interview him for an exclusive question and answer session.

He's one of the Miami Hurricanes high-priority targets. is insights shed light on his recruiting process and what makes him a standout student-athlete.

Q: How’s your junior season going so far?

A: “It’s going well, 1% better every game.”

Q: What is it like being a running back for Heritage knowing you’re following in the footsteps of some of the most talented High School football players to come out of Florida?

A: “It’s a blessing being able to be a part of the history of the great RBs of American Heritage. It’s a process and I’m trusting it and I can't wait to see what the future holds.”

Q: If you had to describe your running style to someone who hasn’t seen you play. How would you describe yourself?

A: “I would describe myself as a patient runner, a downhill runner, and hard to bring down. Someone who is deadly on the outside, that can catch the ball. I see myself as an all-around back.”

Q: Who are some of the running backs you look up to?

A: “Some of the running backs I look up to are Bijan Robinson, Christian Mccafferey, Alvin Kamara, Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce.”

Q: You recently released your top 10 schools and Miami made the cut. Can you speak to that decision to narrow down your list as well as include Miami in your top five?

A: “The reason Miami was included in my top 10 was because they have a solid o-line and they are going to run the ball and play all of their backs. There is definitely something special cooking down there. My list was narrowed down to those 10 programs because they produced the best running backs, and I will get the best development for the next level that will prepare me for the NFL.”

Q: Do you remember the day when you received your offer from Miami? Take us back to that moment, how was that?

A: “Yes, it was after my 8th grade Spring practice and I was getting extra work in with Mark Fletcher when the UM coach called my running back coach to offer me.”

Q: Former Heritage running back Mark Fletcher has looked impressive in his freshman season so far for Miami, how much does his early success factor into your decision to include Miami in your top five?

A: “It’s a major factor because it shows that if you put the time in and the work in, you will earn an opportunity to play at the University of Miami.”

Q:You were recently at the Miami versus Texas A&M game, how was that experience seeing the Canes offense up close?

A: “I had a good time at the game. It was an amazing experience seeing the offensive line and running backs live in action.”

Q: Have you had any conversations with Miami offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson? If so, what are your impressions of him and his offensive scheme?

A: “I haven’t had an opportunity to speak with Coach Dawson, but I’m looking forward to speaking with him soon.”

Q: Running back coach Tim Harris, Jr. is widely regarded as one of the best running back coaches and recruiters. What’s your relationship like with him and how influential is he in your recruiting process?

A: “My relationship with Coach Tim is great. I speak to him weekly, he is very persistent in letting me know that he wants me to be a Cane.”

Q: What are some of the things that are important to you when it comes to a college?

A: “A great education off the field. A place I can adapt to very easily. On the field I would like to go to a school that uses their RBs everywhere especially in the pass game.”

Q: What are your goals for the season? Both individually and your goal for Heritage as a team?

A: “My goal individually is to finish the season healthy but also get better week in and week out. As for team success, I want to win state this year especially for my teammates that couldn’t finish the season due to their health.”

Louis is undeniably a rising star in the world of college football recruiting. His recent visit to Miami showcased his interest in the program, and his thoughtful approach to his recruitment process reflects his dedication to becoming the best athlete and student he can be.

As one of Miami's high-priority targets, it will be interesting to see where this promising young running back decides to continue his football journey.
