David Stone Talks OKlahoma, Miami

5-star defensive tackle David Stone interview from Battle in the Trenches event

During today’s Battle in the Trenches event in Orlando, one of the top overall performers was 5-star defensive tackle prospect David Stone.

The IMG Academy prospect, ranked No. 14 in the nation by Rivals.com, showed his all-around pass rushing abilities. Stone would quickly extend his hands and bring the fight to the offensive lineman in front of him. With that ability, he won the majority of his reps right off the snap of the football.

A rip, stab, or double move ended up with Stone gaining a sack during the vast majority of his reps.

Stone also has a plethora of schools still giving chase. He’s been offered by programs from Washington, Colorado, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Oklahoma, Miami, LSU, Florida and Alabama, among others.

He took a few moments to discuss two of his favorite programs during the recruiting process – Oklahoma and Miami – after the competition. Stone was first asked about Oklahoma, the school he grew up 30 minutes away from.

“Everything, it’s like family there,” said Stone of going over to Norman to visit the Sooners. As for which coach is heading up OU’s recruitment of Stone, he also provided some insight there, too.

“The whole staff honestly. I talk to them pretty frequently.”

He’s also been on multiple trips down to Coral Gables recently to see Miami. He mentioned “the whole staff” was recruiting him from Miami, just like with OU. He also singled out defensive line coach Jason Taylor as being “A really smart coach.” Here’s more of what Stone said about the Canes:

Stone has been enjoying his recruiting process and he’s going to be pursued by many college football programs until he signs his letter of intent. After seeing him play again today, there's a good reason why that’s the case.
