Miami 'Without a Doubt' in the Mix for TE Recruit Hipp After Campus Visit
Miami took multiple tight end recruits in the class of 2023 and has been busy targeting new names in the class of 2024 early this year.
One of its most recent targets, Dillon Hipp, was able to get to Coral Gables for a visit on Tuesday just over a month after adding the offer from the Hurricanes. The Scottsdale (Ariz.) Desert Mountain recruit admits the trip will help the program stay in the mix for his services going forward.
"Without a doubt," Hipp told All Hurricanes. "Just because of the feeling I had when I was on campus. It felt like I could see myself going there and the system/scheme they have is built for a tight end. The area is also really nice and being in Miami is hard to beat.
"It was great, I loved everything."
Hipp was able to get time with Mario Cristobal, Cody Woodiel and other coaches while on campus.
"I was able to have a great conversation with Coach Cristobal and we talked about everything from football, of course, to what he's looking forward to bringing the city of Miami," Hipp said. "I spent a ton of time with Coach Woodiel ... just breaking down film and learning different techniques.
"It was really nice to get coached up by someone at that level when I'm still in high school."
Miami's reputation at the tight end position is another element the 6-foot-6, 230-pound recruit emphasized after his time at The U. It stands among the factors to potentially keep Miami in the mix for a contested national recruitment.
"The culture of having good tight ends and featuring them as well is something I came in knowing but after getting on campus I was able to see the film myself," Hipp said. "I had a very good first impression with the school, also, because of the campus and it being in Miami of course."
The Miami visit was the fifth on a busy spring break visit swing for the rising-senior recruit. Hipp saw Tennessee, Louisville, Ole Miss and Auburn before his time in Coral Gables. More than 30 scholarship offers have come in for him, but he hopes to trim his list soon ahead of setting official visits in the summer months.
