Prospect Profile: 2024 CB Recruit Larry Tarver, Jr.
Not every college football prospect gains a lot of notoriety from the outset of his recruitment. In the college football recruiting world, it's often called being under the radar.
Cornerback Larry Tarver, Jr. would be a prime example. Coming from Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) TRU Prep, Tarver has definitely gone under the radar with college football coaches.
He’s been playing seven-on-seven with Defcon1, one of the premier organizations in the country and one that scouts know well. Seeing Tarver live and in action helped paint a much different picture than what many may have previously learned. He played in the Pylon Orlando event this past weekend.
Coming out of his backpedal, the 5-foot-11 and 165-pound athlete flashed his suddenness when turning to run with a receiver during a deep route, as well as when he planted his back foot and drove on the football.
Tarver was consistently mirroring the receiver that was assigned to cover. He was one of the better cornerbacks at the event, and there was a plethora of talent onhand. He provided a glimpse of what could be in the future as well.
A lanky frame that can easily hold another 20 pounds also looked promising. Tarver has also been running track this spring, competing in the 100 meters and 4x100 relay. Training to run those two events will aid Tarver's speed, which certainly improves a cornerback prospect's profile.
Overall, this was a player that many coaches and scouts will soon find out about. A couple actually already have and extended offers.
“University of Miami and Eastern Illinois,” Tarver commented about the programs that offered him to date. The Miami offer happened in September of 2021, so it will be interesting to see how the current Hurricanes coaching staff goes after him. Regardless, with Tarver's athleticism and natural football abilities, he's a prospect on the rise.
Tarver also self-reported a 3.3 GPA, so that will certainly help his cause as well.
