Miami Lands 4th Verbal Commitment
From Baton Rouge (La.) Southern Lab, defensive back Dylan Day has joined the 2024 Hurricanes recruiting class.
He was the fourth verbal commitment. The 6-foot and 170-pound defender could play cornerback or safety for the Canes.
Watching his junior film, a few items stood out about the Louisiana prospect.
For one, it was his ability to hit top gear in a hurry. Whether tracking the football, changing directions and going into full speed again, or after Day intercepted a pass, speed was evident.
Interestingly, Day’s hitting ability stood out as well. He’s not the biggest guy. That did not stop him from laying a wallop and several offensive players.
Another quality was his ability to catch just about anything that came his way. Unlike many other defensive backs, Day’s hands were true. He caught errant passes and immediately looked to go the other direction.
As an additional bonus, Day showed the propensity to play bump-and-run coverage, as well as be a single-high safety. That versatility was probably something that new Miami defensive coordinator and safeties coach Lance Guidry liked. A Louisiana native, Guidry was recruiting Day for the Canes.
As for his overall recruitment, Day had offers from programs like Baylor, Tulane, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Arizona State, West Virginia, Louisiana Tech, and Georgia Tech among others.
Day's commitment was the third for the Hurricanes since April 7 when quarterback Judd Anderson selected Miami. This past April 14, wide receiver Chance Robinson made Miami his pick as well.
