Miami Making QB Luke Moga 'A Priority' After Return Visit
One visit captured his interest, the second confirmed plenty about the Miami Hurricane angle.
Now a third trip to Coral Gables could soon be in the works for class of 2024 quarterback recruit Luke Moga. The Phoenix (Ariz.) Sunnyslope rising-senior recruit says he will take an official visit to Mario Cristobal's program following the closer look he got over the weekend.
It was also the first in-person impression with new Miami offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Shannon Dawson.
"It was amazing," Moga told All Hurricanes. "They are making me a priority for them and that means a lot. Spent the whole weekend with coach Dawson and coach Cristobal and it was good to finally meet coach Dawson.
"His offense is air raid, but tailored to strengths of QB. Obviously I’m different than TVD (Tyler Van Dyke), but he isn’t afraid to tailor it. He’s a super laid back coach, but when it’s time to be on the field he coaches hard, which is what I like."
The Hurricanes underwent a scrimmage with plenty of top recruits in town, but Cristobal still made time to go one-on-one with the 6-foot-2, 195-pound passer who happens to be a sub 100-meter dash sprinter on the track.
"Had dinner with him, great man, great coach and super fun to be around," Moga said. "He really cares about his players during and outside of football."
The Arizona dual-threat has been busy on the recruiting trail beyond The U, fielding two dozen scholarship offers, with recent trips to Cincinnati and Cal under his belt. Next up are trips to Oregon and TCU before settling on more official visits in addition to locking in the logistics surrounding the next Miami trip.
As a junior in 2022, Moga totaled 31 touchdowns (26 passing) and nearly 3,000 yards of total offense during his first full campaign as the primary quarterback. Prior, the versatile athlete played quarterback and wide receiver in spots.
