During the Broward County Media Day, there was a chance to have fun and allow these young men to really tell all. So, here’s what they said.
It started with safety Zaquan Patterson and wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, two players for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna, discussing one other. Again, this was just fun. Check it out:
Another interesting conversation that was simply voice recorded involved Saint Thomas Aquinas cornerback Romanas Frederique and wide receiver Chance Robinson. It was the same concept with the two Miami commitments.
If looks could kill though, as Robinson wanted to give some ribbing to his buddy, so keep that in mind.
“Really just expectations,” Robinson began about what Frederique needs to improve upon, but also went into further detail with the following. “When he sees a player out there that he knows isn’t really that good, he doesn’t really just take off. But, if he sees someone like me out there, then he’ll start taking it seriously. He takes people lightly sometimes (laughter from everybody at the table).
“He won’t let them catch the ball or anything, but he doesn’t go all the way through his technique. If there’s a really good receiver he’s going against, then he takes his technique seriously.”
The BCAA was also a good chance to get to know a few of these young men a little better. Since Frederique was there, it was an opportunity to ask him about his size, why he picked the Canes, and just football in general. That also allowed for a better idea of what kind of person he was. The following represented the otherall personality.
He’s a really smart young man. For instance, when asked a question, he thought things through, then responded. That’s not exactly the most common trait for a teenager.
Specifically about football, Frederique likes to play aggressively at the line of scrimmage. That was interesting considering he had a soft spoken personality. One might not have thought that based on meeting him.
He was a fun young man to get to know. Here are a few things he also said about his decision to attend the University of Miami.
“What solidified it for me was…the love they showed,” Frederique began about why he chose the Hurricanes. “They showed more love than any other school. Coach (Mario) Cristobal texted me every day. Coach Jahmile Addae texted me every day.
“Like, they made sure that I am needed. They think I can have an impact on the team. No school showed that much love (like Miami).”
As for which schools were also in the running when Frederique made the flip to Miami, he mentioned West Virginia and Florida State.
