The Hurricanes Offer Miami Northwestern Recruit A Scholarship
Newly hired Miami defensive backs coach Chevis Jackson is blazing his own trail and recruiting the South Florida talent he wants to play for the Hurricanes.
As the saying goes, gold is where you find it. Jackson and the Canes just made a scholarship offer to Miami (Fla.) Northwestern cornerback Tywan Cox. Northwestern is one of the most revered Florida prep programs, but Cox is not necessarily a household name going by the recruiting rankings from the big four services.
None of Rivals, 247, On3, or ESPN has him ranked. That's okay.
First, it means Jackson is doing his own evaluations. That's how it should be. Too many coaches rely on outside information prior to offering a scholarship to a prospect.
Next, it's still Miami Northwestern. Cox is going against South Florida talent and that means competing against top-notch talent. Watching Cox's HUDL film, it's easy to see why he's now holding a UM offer.
He plays cornerback, nickel, and safety, plus he's a dangerous return man as well. Versatile athletes like Cox help college football programs like Miami check several boxes at one time because he can fill in if there's an injury to another player.
Finally, Cox's film showcases a young man who is a thumper. He's not the biggest player at a listed 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. When Cox coils and explodes through an opposing player, his size is not what the opponent is thinking about.
Jackson is offering one of South Florida's best in Northwestern cornerback Tywan Cox.
