Zavier Mincey’s recruitment is getting down to crunch time. The Daytona Beach (Fla.) Mainland prospect is attempting to narrow down his list of schools from the official visits to Florida (June 9), Florida State (June 16) and Miami (June 23).

Plus, there’s an opportunity for the Alabama Crimson Tide as well. Indeed, Mincey’s recruitment continues to be full of college football heavy hitters. All four of these programs would like the unique skills that Mincey possesses.

At 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, Mincey is one of the biggest cornerbacks one will find at the prep level. His natural hips and ability to hit full speed quickly are good indicators that Mincey can continue to play the cornerback position at the collegiate level despite his height. It’s hard to find cornerbacks at his size.

That’s also why the long list of college football programs are lining up to attempt to sign him on National Signing Day. After Mainland’s 26-0 victory over Jacksonville (Fla.) Raines, Mincey took the time to discuss his recruitment, including an interesting decision timeframe.

Mincey brought up that he’s attending the Tennessee at Florida game, and adds the following as well.

“Definitely going to try to hit an Alabama game up. I’m pretty sure that’s the only other one.”

As for how Mincey defines his final list of schools, here’s the list he provides.

“Top three, well…(laughing) Florida State, Florida, and then Miami, and also Alabama.”

With those four programs in mind, Mincey did offer up that he’s really close to making his college choice.

“I’m thinking about this week. Yeah, like, I’m thinking this week. I’m literally thinking about it heavily right now. Pros and cons of each school, thinking about writing it. Just going down the list. Just thinking about everything.”

How Mincey plans to announce is another interesting topic.

“Just tell the school (that I’m coming), and then keep it between us. Then, at the game, the All-American Game in Texas, announce it then.”

As for a deciding factor, here’s how Mincey wants to make his college choice.

“I feel like development, you can get anywhere. Like, they are all good programs. But, I feel like…playing time may be a factor. Like, education is good everywhere, too. And then just the vibe with the coaches. I feel like that’s something I need. If I’m going to be around you all the time, I just have to click on a certain level.”

Miami defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae drove up from Miami to see Mincey play, and Florida defensive backs coach Corey Raymond came over from Gainesville.

Mincey spoke about Addae.

“It was great. He hit me up, told me he was going to come see me. It means that he cares. He came all the way from Miami to watch me for a while. It means a lot.”

He also gave an on-field perspective of the Miami versus Texas A&M game.

“It was great. The crowd was booming. An ACC team beat a SEC team, that’s obviously big. It was a great environment.”

Mincey also discusses Raymond being at the game.

“He hit me up, too. It just, it just shows that they cared. Cared enough to come out to the game. They could have been at any other game and they chose to come here.”

As for what he’s seeking from his visit to UF, Mincey has thoughts about that subject as well.

“I know they’ve got some young defensive backs that I know. Like I played with them. I just want to see how they’ve been developed so far. Things they got better at.”

As for the Seminoles, Mincey's thoughts are as follows.

“Them boys are rolling right now. Them boys on a roll. I went to the game . It was electric.”
