Five-Star, 7-Footer Puts Michigan Basketball In Top Group

Michigan basketball is reeling a bit, but Juwan Howard still knows how to recruit.

Michigan basketball is not in the best shape right now, but it's not completely in the tank either. Despite missing the tournament last year and needing a complete retool when it comes to the roster, U-M hoops is still hanging in there, on the recruiting trail in particular, because of Juwan Howard and his staff. That was recently proven when Wichita (Kan.) Sunrise Christian center John Bol put the Wolverines his top eight.

Bol is listed anywhere between 7-1 and 7-3, and is playing at around 190-195 pounds. The lanky shot blocker likes Michigan and has already taken an official visit in Ann Arbor, and he's also checked out Missouri in an official capacity. Those two schools, along with five others and Overtime Elite, professional basketball league for 16-20-year olds, are still in consideration.

As you can see in the graphic above, Bol is considering Wake Forest, Florida, Texas, UConn and USC, along with U-M and Mizzou and Overtime Elite.

Bol has only been living in the United States for a short time after moving here from South Sudan. Like many international, late-comers to the game, he's raw, but because of his athleticism and length, he's as intriguing as anyone in the 2024 class. He could step onto a college basketball court and be a difference maker on defense right now, but he has a ways to go on offense. He's a lob threat, and a solid offensive rebounder, which allows him to get putbacks and dunks, but his footwork and jump shot need a significant amount of work. Still, he's coveted and considered a five-star prospects because there's just so much potential in that frame.
