The real push for Bryce Underwood, at least on the financial side, apparently began back in late September when Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy indicated he'd be willing to pay up to $3 million for an elite QB at Michigan.

According to Portnoy, that public declaration led to a chain of events that ultimately helped keep the five-star QB in the state of Michigan. Although Portnoy was initially unwilling to go into much detail prior to the formal announcement of Underwood flipping from LSU to Michigan, he did provide some key details on Tuesday during a podcast appearance.

If that's how it all went down (at least on the NIL side), that's a pretty incredible sequence of events that led to what could be the most consequential recruiting win in program history. Of course, money was just one factor that helped keep Underwood in the state of Michigan. Head coach Sherrone Moore, along with his staff, also deserve a ton of credit for the work they put in to make it all possible.
