So much hype is surrounding Michigan football heading into 2023. What does the Michigan single-season sack leader think about the Wolverines' chances?

Aidan Hutchinson ended his Michigan career as one of the best defensive players to wear the maize and blue. Hutchinson helped lead Michigan to a win against Ohio State, a Big Ten title, and the Wolverines' first-ever trip to the College Football Playoff. He also left Michigan as the all-time single-season sack leader with 14 in '21.

The Detroit Lions defensive end was on The Rich Eisen show to talk about the NFL life, playing against players like Patrick Mahomes, and to briefly speak on his alma mater.

Eisen told Hutchinson he was nervous about so many people picking Michigan to win the entire thing this season. But Hutchinson appears to be confident in Michigan this season. He believes if the Wolverines can get over the CFP semifinal game, then Michigan can bring home the hardware.

“I can’t be heartbroken again at the playoffs,” Hutchinson said on The Rich Eisen Show. “Just that last year against TCU, that should have never ever, ever been at a loss. But I think the boys are gonna turn the page. I think the boys got a chance to win. I hope they get over that semi final hurdle. I think if they win the semifinal, the boys win it all.

“They gotta get over that first round hurdle. But I think expectations are through the roof. (They have) all the talent in the world, same coaching staff, like nothing should change.”

The first-round struggles are real for Michigan. In 2021 the Wolverines were obliterated by Georgia, 34-11. Then last season, Michigan lost to TCU in a high-scoring affair, 51-45.

Michigan returns over 80% of its production from a season ago. Combine that with the return of J.J. McCarthy and the duo of Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards at running back, the Wolverines should be the real deal in 2023.
