Michigan DL Coach Greg Scruggs Suspended Indefinitely

New Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested early Saturday morning.
In this story:

Early this morning, University of Michigan defensive line coach Greg Scruggs was arrested by Ann Arbor Police for allegedly operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News first reported this development and confirmed Scruggs’ arrest with Chris Paige of the Ann Arbor Police Department.

Last week, Scruggs was officially announced as the Wolverines’ DL coach with his arrest following only 10 days later.

The timing of Scruggs’ arrest is particularly notable because Michigan is hosting recruits on campus this weekend. In particular, Hoschton (Ga.) Mill Creek three-star linebacker Luke Metz confirmed with Wolverine Digest that he is on campus right now.

Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore touched on the arrest in a press release from the school:

“Greg made an unfortunate mistake and was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He made no excuses and has taken accountability for his actions. The football program and athletic department have suspended Greg indefinitely while we review details of the incident.”

Prior to assuming the defensive line post at Michigan, Scruggs coached the same position group for one season at Wisconsin. Before that, Scruggs worked as an assistant defensive line coach with the New York Jets in 2022.

As a player, Scruggs was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2012 NFL Draft after a four-year career at Louisville. Scruggs went on to play in the NFL for five years, a run that included two Super Bowl victories.
