PFF Performance Analysis, Snap Counts, Trends: Michigan vs. Bowling Green
Michigan was favored by a massive 40.5 points against Bowling Green and, while that didn't exactly happen, the Wolverines still won easily and put some nice things on tape. This week, however, Michigan made more mistakes than normal and now has to clean several things up as thy prepare for Big Ten play and Rutgers.
PFF Top Performers (15-snap minimum)
Offense
1. Blake Corum - 87.3
Once again, Corum was solid. He carried the ball 12 times for 101 yards and scored two touchdowns. He busted one of for 54 yards and averaged more than 8 yards per carry. He wasn't great as a pass blocker, but his day as a ball carrier was very, very good.
2. Cornelius Johnson - 82.7
Even though JJ McCarthy had a rough day, Johnson was his favorite target and finished with 3 catches for 71 yards and a score. He was also serviceable as a run blocker per PFF.
3. Colston Loveland - 77.1
Like Johnson, Loveland also finished the day with three grabs but he totaled just 30 yards and did not score. He was very solid on the day both as a run blocker and a pass blocker. He'll continue to grade well as he develops as a blocker.
Defense
1. Quinten Johnson - 91.0
Johnson technically only played 14 snaps but he did everything well and picked off a pass so I'm giving him his flowers. He finished the day with one tackle and the aforementioned interception and did a very good job in coverage as well.
2. Jaylen Harrell - 90.5
Harrell was very good across the board but as usual, shined most as a pass rusher. He finished the day with 2 tackles including 1 for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. Harrell was a rockstar on Saturday.
3. Kris Jenkins - 84.6
Jenkins was also very good across the board but shined most against the run. He finished the day with 2 tackles including 1 for loss and also had a coveted big man interception that he nearly took back for a touchdown. The Mutant showed why his nickname fits.
PFF Bottom Performers
Offense
1. JJ McCarthy - 42.3
McCarthy has been at the top of these lists since he barely threw any incompletions through the first two weeks but his three-interception performance certainly knocked him down a peg. He only threw the ball 13 times and obviously three of those throws went to the other team. He did compile 143 yards and two scores, but overall it was a day he'd like to forget.
2. Donovan Edwards - 59.9
Edwards got going a little more on the ground to the tune of 50 yards on 9 carries, but he graded terribly as a pass blocker (20.4) per PFF.
3. Karsen Barnhart - 64.8
Barnhart actually wasn't that bad, but per the scale and 15-snap minimum, he occupies this spot. PFF had him down as having a rough day as a pass blocker.
Defense
1. Jyaire Hill - 51.1
Hill, freshman corner, was decent in coverage but struggled some as a tackler. If you're a coach, you can live with that as he continues to get stronger and more physical.
2. Ernest Hausmann - 58.0
On the flip side, Hausman was very solid as a tackler, finishing with three, but struggled some in coverage.
3. Makari Paige - 62.3
Paige returned to the field full time for the first time this season and saw 39 snaps of action. He was OK across the board but graded lowest as a tackler per PFF.
