Michigan Football Has A Top Five 'Impact' Recruit Committed In The 2024 Class

The recruiting analysts are a little down on him at the moment, but at the end of the day, Michigan has an instant-impact player in the class of '24.
In this story:

The Wolverines are currently holding down a top-five recruiting class for 2024 and Michigan has plenty of targets it's still after -- some big-named ones in fact.

But looking closely at the current commitments, ESPN came out with an article talking about the top five impact players in the class of 2024. One of the players that were listed by Tom VanHaaren at ESPN was Michigan quarterback commit, Jadyn Davis.

Michigan has won the Big Ten championship the past two seasons with College Football Playoff appearances as well. The expectations continue to rise in Ann Arbor, and the key for the Wolverines is finding a way to keep consistency through recruiting and the transfer portal while finding their specific type of recruit to fit the culture they've built.

Michigan hadn't signed an ESPN 300 quarterback since J.J. McCarthy in the 2021 class, and because the quarterback position is so important to consistency on the field, it was imperative that the staff got a signal-caller who fits their system and can eventually take over for McCarthy. The staff believes that Davis can be that guy and give them a chance to stay in the championship conversations.

Davis is one of the top quarterbacks in the class, but he has also had a Pied Piper effect on the recruiting trail, helping recruit other top recruits to the class like his wide receiver teammate, Channing Goodwin as well as receiver I'Marion Stewart. It was a win-win for Michigan, which is hoping he is someone who makes an impact early on in his career.

Davis committed to Michigan back on March 31 and at that time, he was considered a five-star talent. He picked the Wolverines over Clemson, Georgia, North Carolina, and Ohio State, among others -- basically any school you can think of wanted the Charlotte (North Carolina) Providence Day School prospect.

Even after succeeding in the Elite 11, with a sixth-place final ranking, he still somehow dropped in the recruiting rankings. He went from five-star Composite status to four-star status. He is considered a four-star on every recruiting platform except for Rivals where he is still a five-star talent.

On Rivals, he is the 20th-ranked recruit in the country, and Davis goes as low as 115th according to On3 itself.

ESPN is correct when saying he is a top-five 'impact' player because the success of Michigan football all but hinges on what Davis does at the next level. This very well may be the last season Michigan fans get to see J.J. McCarthy. If the former five-star plays as well as he can, and should, then McCarthy may bolt up NFL big boards and he could be an NFL draft pick come April.

If McCarthy is gone, Jim Harbaugh has some decisions to make. Does Alex Orji or Davis Warren get the job? Or does one of the best high school quarterbacks get thrust into the starting job? It's not a today's problem for Michigan, or a worry, but it's a conversation to be had.
