Michigan Is The No. 1 Team In The Country
As of right now, the two-time defending national champion Georgia Bulldogs are considered the No. 1 team according to the AP Poll, which is the main ranking system, at least for a couple more weeks. However, Pro Football Focus, which breaks down every single player on every single play in every single game, has the Wolverines at the very top of the mountain when it comes to its overall, on-field grade through six games.
As you can clearly see, the 6-0, No. 2 in the AP Poll-Michigan Wolverines have an overall team grade of 97.1, which is tops in the entire country. Michigan comes in at No. 1 overall on offense and defense, which isn't surprising given the perfect record, average margin of victory and ease of wins.
In an upside down world, Michigan's lowest mark is on running plays, where the Wolverines check in at No. 33 overall. Michigan's lowest overall grade, is 75.0 when it comes to the team on pass blocking plays, which is also surprising given that JJ McCarthy has only been sacked three times through six games.
As of today, the Wolverines are the only team that has won each game by at least 24 points. JJ McCarthy is 3rd in the nation with a 77.6 completion percentage. Roman Wilson is 2nd in the country in touchdown catches with eight. Once again, Blake Corum leads the nation in rushing touchdowns with 10, and he's only carried the ball 83 times, which is less than anyone else in the top ten for TDs scored. At the end of the day, Michigan is in the discussion as one of the best overall teams in the entire country and they seem to be getting better and better with each passing week.
