Psychic Vibes: Five Specific Predictions For Michigan Against Nebraska
Michigan got to 3-0 without Jim Harbaugh and then won last week in pretty convincing fashion against Rutgers with Harbaugh back on the sidelines to get to 4-0 without much resistance. This week, it's a different animal. Harbaugh and Co. will be in Lincoln for the first road test of the season, which always brings with it some unknown.
1. Blake Corum will do the corn celebration
Two years ago in Lincoln, Blake Corum celebrated a touchdown run by miming the consumption of corn on the cob. Michigan's No. 1 back is almost certainly going to get into the end zone today, and I think we'll see it again. Corum is all about the meaningful celebrations and that one put him on the map even more than he already was.
2. Colston Loveland will score a touchdown
So far this year, it's been the Blake Corum and Roman Wilson show when it comes to touchdowns, but today Loveland is going to find his way into the end zone. The sophomore tight end is a matchup nightmare and Nebraska struggles mightily against the pass. I'm assuming they'll do their best to neutralize Wilson, which could open up the middle of the field for someone like Loveland. He's too good to go five weeks without scoring a tuddy.
3. Michigan will easily rush for more yards against Nebraska than anyone this year
Ok, this one is a layup, but it's to prove a point. Michigan's running game is not broken, just a little stunted, and Nebraska's rush defense is good, but not No. 2 in the country good. So far, the Huskers have given up 55, 58, 26 and 46 yards rushing in their four games. Michigan is going to blow past those totals, perhaps even triple up that 58 number, en route to a road victory today.
4. Michigan will hold Nebraska to less rushing yards than anyone this year
On the flip side, Nebraska has been pretty good at running the ball as well. As of right now, the Huskers are No. 6 in the nation averaging 235 yards per game on the ground. During the first four weeks, the Huskers have rushed for 181, 222, 224 and 312 yards. Today against Michigan, it's going to be a different story. The Wolverines are No. 13 against the run in their own right and have only given up 320 yards rushing all season. Nebraska has looked good running the ball, but they haven't seen a defense like Jesse Minter's.
5. Michigan will cover
For the first time this season, Michigan's spread is under 20 points. Yes, an 18.5-point spread is pretty sizable for a road game, especially the first road game, but Nebraska just isn't that good. They do have two wins, but they are against Northern Illinois and Louisiana Tech. The Huskers were smoked by Colorado and lost in Minneapolis against the Gophers during week one. Michigan is better than both of those teams by a good margin and should cruise to victory in this one.
