Michigan Football: J.J. McCarthy Earns Big Ten Offensive Player Of The Week
For the second time this season, Michigan had a player selected as a Big Ten Player of the Week. Two weeks ago, Edge defender Josaiah Stewart was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and now after his three-touchdown day, J.J. McCarthy is the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week.
McCarthy threw just three incompletions against the Hoosiers and played just under three full quarters of football. The junior went 14-for-17, 222 yards, and three scores. He also ran for 27 yards on the ground.
Jim Harbaugh stated last week he thinks McCarthy is the best QB in the country and he couldn't think of another quarterback who would be better to run the Wolverines' offense. That statement is looking better and better after each passing game. McCarthy is one of the most accurate throwers in the entire country and his poise in the pocket has been unmatched.
Here are some highlights from McCarthy's big week against Indiana, courtesy of the Big Ten.
- Matched a career-high with three touchdown passes, engineering six straight scoring drives with five touchdowns in the Wolverines’ 52-7 victory against Indiana
- Completed 14-of-17 attempts for 222 yards and three touchdowns, moving to 11th all-time in passing yards with 4,467 career passing yards
- Marked the first time the Wolverines have scored 50-plus points in back-to-back Big Ten games since 1975 and the first time in program history with 10 straight games with 30-plus points
- The Academic All-Big Ten honoree earns his first career Offensive Player of the Week award
- Last Michigan Offensive Player of the Week: Donovan Edwards (Nov. 28, 2022)
