Michigan Football Players Of The Game In Win Over Maryland
Michigan improved to 11-0 on the season and recorded the program's 1,000-win after squeaking out a 31-24 win over Maryland on Saturday afternoon.
It took grit and resilience to pull out a win, that once looked bleak. The Michigan offense continued to sputter in the second half and the Wolverines' defense was getting beat on short passes and occasionally on the deep throw.
But after an emotional win a week ago over Penn State, and with Ohio State next on the docket, the Wolverines got the job done and escaped College Park with a big win.
Here are my six Michigan players of the game.
Offense:
RB Blake Corum: Blake Corum had half of Michigan's total touchdowns on Saturday. The senior looked like his old self against Maryland and racked up 94 yards on 28 carries. Corum scored two times in the win over the Terrapins and he now stands at 51 career touchdowns at Michigan. The maize and blue will need another vintage performance from him next weekend.
WR Semaj Morgan: The blazing-fast freshman had a couple of nice plays on Saturday. Morgan took a 13-yard end-around run for a score and he also had two catches for 16 yards. While Morgan is probably WR No. 4 on the depth chart, he continues to show that he has that 'It' factor and should have a solid career in Ann Arbor.
TE Colston Loveland: It was tough trying to find a third player here, the Michigan offense wasn't sharp and J.J. McCarthy struggled for much of the afternoon, but Loveland made a few nice grabs. Loveland had three catches for just 24 yards but they were all at crucial moments. Twice McCarthy found Loveland on fourth down to keep the drive moving, and once on third down to keep the Wolverines' offense on the field
Defense:
CB Mike Sainristil: Agent 0 sure made an impact against Maryland. The Wolverines' secondary was getting cooked in the second half, but Sainristil made the Maryland drives stall. The nickel defender recorded two interceptions against Taulia Tagovailoa. One came late in the third quarter and one came late in the fourth quarter.
DT Kenneth Grant: Michigan has a ton of good defensive linemen, but I'm at the point where I think Grant just might be the best one and he's only a sophomore. Grant recorded four tackles, had a TFL, and sacked Tagovailoa late in the fourth quarter. Between his size and athleticism, Grant is going to make for a great NFL prospect next year.
LB Michael Barret: The linebacker got hurt, but Barrett still made a big impact on the game. Barrett was the reason Michigan had a defensive score and that Derrick Moore scored a touchdown. Both Moore and Barrett rushed on opposite ends, Tagovailoa had nowhere to go, and Barrett stripped the Maryland QB. Barrett finished the day with four tackles, a TFL, and a strip sack.
