Top Transfer Portal Target Josh Wallace Picks Michigan
After entering the transfer portal, taking a handful of visits over the past couple of weeks and weighing all of his options, former UMass cornerback Josh Wallace has announced his commitment to Michigan.
Wallace, a 6-0, 190-pound cover corner, entered the portal on May 25 and picked up several offers almost immediately. After weighing those tenders out and taking serious visits to Michigan, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech, the four-year starter picked the Wolverines.
During his time at UMass, Wallace played more than 2,000 snaps. Last year, he really shined, which is why he decided to test out the portal. During the 2022 season, Wallace had two interceptions and seven pass breakups. All told, Wallace has racked up 140 tackles, three interceptions, and 28 pass breakups during his time in Amherst. Ironically, Wallace's best statistical season last year was under first-year UMass head coach — Don Brown.
Now, it feels like Wallace will start at cornerback opposite Will Johnson. Amorion Walker was the hot name coming out of spring, and he may develop into a phenomenal cover man due to his size and overall athleticism, but Wallace is prove and described as a lengthy, springy defensive back who is not afraid to be physical. That kind of player is exactly what Jim Harbaugh likes at corner.
