Second year defensive backs Will Johnson and Keon Sabb had a major impact on Michigan's 52-10 win over Minnesota last weekend.

Michigan seems to be in great hands on defense when it comes to life after the 2023 season. With young, star, impact players like Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Derrick Moore, Ernest Hausman, Keon Sabb and Will Johnson all playing major snaps and making big time plays, the U-M defense should continue to shine into the future.

On Saturday, Graham was a game wrecker, while Johnson and Sabb had a direct impact on the scoreboard by recording their first career pick sixes. For Johnson, he got things started for the Wolverines by taking his interception back for a touchdown on the second play of the game.

Johnson, the crown jewel of Michigan's 2022 recruiting class, is a former five-star prospect out of Grosse Pointe (Mich.) Grosse Pointe South High School. He's been making big time plays since his youth days and is on track to making a bunch of them in college.

Sabb's big play came late in the third quarter when he dropped into a zone, hid out and then climbed the ladder to go up and snag what was supposed to be a pretty deep throw by Minnesota quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis.

Like Johnson, Sabb was a big time recruit coming out of high school and even spent his senior season at famed IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla after getting his start in New Jersey. Sabb was a borderline five-star prospect in his own right and was a very big, late coup for the Wolverines during his recruiting cycle.

Both Johnson and Sabb reeled in more than 30 offers during their high school careers and made U-M's 2022 class the No. 12 group in the entire country. Now, players like Johnson and Sabb are setting themselves up for being leaders on U-M's defense and ultimately a seat at the table when the NFL Draft comes rolling around.
