Michigan offers giant offensive lineman from transfer portal
Michigan received good news on Saturday when starting center Greg Crippen announced he would return for a fifth season and be back in Ann Arbor for the 2025 football season. On the defensive end, the Wolverines also got word they would get back starting linebacker Ernest Hausmann.
But even with the return of Crippen on the Michigan offensive line, the Wolverines still need to replace a few others from the offensive line. Left tackle Myles Hinton was lost to graduation and so is left guard Josh Priebe. Michigan could still see Gio El-Hadi return if he chooses to use his fifth year.
Michigan did sign FCS Cal Poly lineman Brady Norton from the portal, but the Wolverines aren't done looking to replenish their line. One of Michigan's latest offers went out to New Mexico State's Shiyaz Pete.
Pete, who has one year of eligibility remaining, is a humongous lineman. Standing at 6-foot-8, 320-pounds, Pete is the type of lineman Michigan goes after. He is a former first-team All-Conference USA. The Montana native started at left tackle for the Aggies and shined during the 2023 season where he won awards. But an ankle injury limited the massive tackle for most of the 2024 season. Pete played in just six games this past season for New Mexico State.
According to Pro Football Focus, Pete graded out with a 69.4 pass-blocking grade and a 67.5 run-blocking grade playing for the Aggies.
