WATCH: Ride Along With The Michigan Army National Guard Over The Big House
The No. 2 Michigan Wolverines hosted UNLV on Saturday for a week two matchup in the Big House. The week two matchup was also part of the annual Military Appreciation Game to honor, thank and recognize all military and veterans of our Armed Forces. Prior to the game, two large American field flags were held by military veterans and service members from the University of Michigan community during the National Anthem.
Additionally, the Michigan Army National Guard conducted a flyover with three UH-60 Black Hawks prior to the game, and they graciously allowed me an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at what goes into coordinating a flyover for sporting events. It was nothing short of incredible.
I spent the morning touring the facilities, sitting in on briefings, and getting to know more about the folks who would be flying that day. For most of the crew, it was their first opportunity to conduct a flyover above Michigan Stadium on gameday.
As kickoff approached, I was fitted with flight gear and given a front row seat in one of three UH-60 Black Hawks. We departed from Grand Ledge and made our way to Ann Arbor for the pregame flyover, and I had the privilege of filming the entire process from start to finish.
