Week 4 rival watch: MSU drops first game, OSU cruises to 3-0
Michigan won its second straight game, improving to 3-1 after a 27-24 win over No. 11 USC. The Wolverines remain at home for a fifth consecutive game, hosting Minnesota next week. Both of Michigan's rivals came into the weekend unbeaten, but Michigan State (3-1) took its first loss, while Ohio State (3-0) stayed perfect on the season.
Michigan State
The Spartans were faced with their second road test of the year at Boston College and fell short 23-19. MSU took a 19-16 lead with 4:12 remaining in the game on Jonathan Kim's fourth field goal. The Eagles marched 75 yards in six plays to score a go-ahead touchdown with 1:28 left. Michigan State had one last chance to pull out another win, but Aidan Chiles was intercepted in the end zone, his second pick of the night to seal the win for Boston College.
Ohio State
Ohio State got off to a slow start, but shut out Marshall in the second half to cruise to a 49-14 win. The Buckeyes allowed its first touchdown of the season on Marshall's opening drive and were tied 7-7 after the first quarter. Ohio State's offense amassed 569 yards, with a balanced attack of 289 yards through the air and 280 yards on the ground. Will Howard threw for 275 yards and two touchdowns. Quinshon Judkins rushed for two scores and 173 yards on 14 carries. Emeka Egbuka found the end zone for the first time in 2024 on a 68-yard pass from Howard in the first quarter.
Michigan State and Ohio State will meet in East Lansing next Saturday at 7:00 p.m. on Peacock.
