JUST IN: AJ Henning Finds New Home Within Big Ten Conference
Although it didn't come as much of a surprise when considering the lack of opportunities he had in 2022, plenty of Michigan fans were still disappointed when wide receiver AJ Henning announced that he was entering the transfer portal last month.
After a few weeks in the portal, Henning announced his new destination on Thursday - indicating that he's headed back to his home state of Illinois.
Henning, a former four-star wide receiver recruit, had flashes of greatness during his time at Michigan, but was never able to fully insert himself into the mix on a consistent basis. He finished his Michigan career as a two-time All-Big Ten selection as a return man (second team, coaches and media, 2022; third team, coaches and media, 2021),three-year letterman (2020-21-22), the teams Special Teams Player of the Year (2022), and a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2021, '22).
When he announced his transfer from the University of Michigan, it was clear that Henning was very appreciative of his time in Ann Arbor.
"I would like to thank God for the blessings and opportunities bestowed upon me at the University of Michigan," wrote Henning. I appreciate Coach Harbaugh and his staff for the opportunity to play for this University. To my teammates, who are now my brothers - thank you for lifelong memories forged here. My sincerest gratitude to the fans for the endless support during my playing time at the University of Michigan. Being a Michigan Man has taught me things far beyond the football field and I will carry that with me for life. With that being said, I will be entering my name into the transfer portal. Go Blue forever!"
