Big Ten Football: Top-Ten Games For The 2023 Season

The Big Ten conference will feature some of the biggest matchups of the 2023 college football season.

With the start of the 2023 college football season less than 50 days away, fans are already looking ahead to some of the matchups that could have championship implications. Within the Big Ten conference specifically, there are a number of intriguing matchups that will certainly play a major factor in deciding the two teams that compete in Indianapolis for the conference championship on Dec. 2. 

Here are the top-ten Big Ten matchups with championship implications in 2023:

10. Minnesota vs. Nebraska

  • Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota - Huntington Bank Stadium
  • Date/Time: Thursday, August 31 at 8:00 pm ET
  • Television: FOX
  • History: This will be the 64th meeting between the two programs, with Minnesota currently riding a four game winning streak against Nebraska. The Cornhuskers last road win against the Golden Gophers occurred in 2015. 

9. Minnesota vs. Michigan

  • Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota - Huntington Bank Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, October 7 - TBD
  • Television: TBD
  • History: This will be the 105th meeting between Minnesota and Michigan in the battle for the Little Brown Jug trophy. The Wolverines are currently riding a three game winning streak against the Golden Gophers, with their last win occurring in Minneapolis during the 2020 season. 

8. Nebraska vs. Michigan

  • Location: Lincoln, Nebraska - Memorial Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, September 30 - TBD
  • Television: TBD
  • History: This will be the 13th meeting between Michigan and Nebraska, with the Wolverines holding a 7-4-1 advantage. Although the Wolverines have won the last three matchups, Michigan's last trip to Lincoln back in 2021 was a nail-biter - with Michigan edging out Nebraska 32-29.

7. Wisconsin vs. Iowa 

  • Location: Madison, Wisconsin - Camp Randall Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, October 14 - TBD
  • Television: TBD
  • History: This will be the 97th meeting between Wisconsin and Iowa, with the Hawkeyes winning the last matchup in 2022. The home team has won the last four contests.

6. Michigan State vs. Michigan

  • Location: East Lansing, Michigan - Spartan Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, October 21 - TBD
  • Television: TBD
  • History: This will be the 116th meeting between the Wolverines and the Spartans, with Michigan holding a 72-38-5 advantage all-time. Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh has an overall record of 4-4 against Michigan State, including a record of 1-2 against current Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker. 

5. Penn State vs. Iowa 

  • Location: University Park, Pennsylvania - Beaver Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, September 23 - 7:30 pm ET
  • Television: CBS/Paramount+
  • History: This will be the 32nd meeting between Penn State and Iowa, with the Nittany Lions holding a 17-14 edge. After losing six straight to Penn State from 2011-2019, the Hawkeyes have won the last two contests in 2020 and 2021. 

4. Wisconsin vs. Ohio State

  • Location: Madison, Wisconsin - Camp Randall Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, September 24 - 7:30 pm ET
  • Television: ABC
  • History: This will be the 86th meeting between Ohio State and Wisconsin, with the Buckeyes winning the last nine straight contests - including three wins over the Badgers in the Big Ten Championship game. 

3. Ohio State vs. Penn State

  • Location: Columbus, Ohio - Ohio Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, October 21 - TBD

  • History: This will be the 38th meeting between Ohio State and Penn State, with the Buckeyes currently riding a six game winning streak dating back to 2017. Penn State's last road victory against Ohio State occurred in 2011. 

2. Penn State vs. Michigan

  • Location: University Park, Pennsylvania - Beaver Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, November 11 - 12:00 pm ET
  • Television: FOX
  • History: This will be the 27th matchup between Michigan and Penn State, with the Wolverines holding a 16-10 advantage. Head coach Jim Harbaugh has a career record of 5-3 against the Nittany Lions, including a 2-2 record at Beaver Stadium. Michigan has won the previous two contests against Penn State.

  • Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan - Michigan Stadium
  • Date/Time: Saturday, November 25 - 12:00 pm ET
  • Television: FOX
  • History: This will be the 118th meeting between Michigan and Ohio State, with the Wolverines holding a 60-51-6 advantage. Michigan has dominated the last two contests against Ohio State, winning by a combined score of 87-50.
