Chasing History: Several Wolverines Cementing Themselves Among The All-Time Greats

The Michigan Wolverines have made it clear that they're not all that interested in personal accolades or achievements, but several are already cementing their names alongside some of the all-time greats.

It's become pretty clear at this point that this group of Michigan Wolverines is not interested in personal accolades or achievements. With so many athletes capable of reaching "super star" status, each player has bought in to the team concept that has propelled Michigan to one of the top programs in the country.

Even so, it's worth noting that several Wolverines are moving up in the record books with each passing week, cementing themselves among some of the greatest players to ever wear the winged helmet.

JJ McCarthy, QB

McCarthy is in his second year as the starting quarterback at the University of Michigan, but he's already placed himself among some of the best to ever play the position in Ann Arbor. He's currently No. 9 in career completions (405), No. 9 in career passing yards (5,429), and tied for No. 6 in career passing touchdowns (45). McCarthy is also tied at No. 6 in single-season passing touchdowns (22, 2022) and still has a shot to break the single season record of 25 held by Elvis Grbac and Chad Henne. He currently sits at 18 touchdown passes with at least three games remaining in the 2023 season.

Blake Corum, RB

Corum has been the Big Ten's top running back over the last two seasons. In fact, the senior running back leads the conference in rushing yards (2,257) and rushing touchdowns (36) since last season. He's also quickly moving up in the Michigan record books. Corum currently ranks No. 9 all-time in career rushing yards (3,286) and No. 2 in career rushing touchdowns (49). He's just seven rushing touchdowns away from passing Anthony Thomas (55) and taking over the No. 1 spot.

Roman Wilson, WR

The senior wideout got off to a hot start and was leading the nation in touchdown receptions for several weeks. The production has cooled off just a bit as Michigan has leaned more heavily on the rushing attack over the last few weeks, but Wilson is still tied for No. 4 nationally in touchdown receptions with 10 on the season.

Wilson is currently just one touchdown reception away from being tied for No. 7 all-time in single season TD receptions - tying him with Desmond Howard (1990), Derrick Alexander (1992), Tai Streets (1998), and Marquise Walker (2001). He's also just three touchdown receptions away from passing Mario Manningham (12), and six touchdown receptions away from passing Braylon Edwards (15) for No. 2 all-time. Even with potentially five games left in the season (assuming Michigan plays for the national championship), it seems unlikely that he'll catch Desmond Howard at No. 1 with 19.
