Michigan Football: Latest CBS Mock Draft Has JJ McCarthy Headed To Vegas
It's not really something that Michigan Football fans want to think about, but it's entirely possible that this could be the final year of the JJ McCarthy era in Ann Arbor. The junior quarterback looked laser sharp in his week one debut against East Carolina, completing 26-of-30 for 280 yards and three touchdowns. His 86.7 percent completion percentage is the highest ever for a Michigan Football program with 25 or more attempts, and he finished the weekend with the highest grade in the Big Ten from Pro Football Focus (93.0).
Not only was McCarthy on target all afternoon, his movement within the pocket and his ability to keep his eyes downfield were a noticeable improvement from last year. Put simply, No. 9 looks like a future first-round pick - and that's exactly where CBS places him in their latest mock NFL Draft.
The latest projection from CBS has McCarthy going in the first round (No. 14 overall) to the Las Vegas Raiders, and says the uncertainty with current Raider QB Jimmy Garoppolo has plenty to do with it.
"Unless Jimmy Garoppolo lights it up enough in 2023 to earn an extension, we have to think Josh McDaniels and GM Dave Ziegler will want to handpick their long-term answer at quarterback at some point soon. McCarthy has a very live arm and plenty of athleticism to create when protection breaks down."
