'This Place Is Like Home To Me': Michigan's Sherrone Moore Continues To Shine
Following Saturday's massive road win over No. 10 Penn State, offensive line coach/offensive coordinator/acting head coach Sherrone Moore was overcome with emotion. Speaking with Jenny Taft of FOX Sports immediately after securing the 24-15 victory, Moore's passion and love for the University of Michigan was on full display.
“Coach Harbaugh, I f—ing love you man,” Moore said. “I love the s— out of you man! I did this for you! We’ve got the best players, best university, best alumni in the country!”
The emotional display by Moore was also the result of weeks of controversy surrounding the Michigan Football football program. The NCAA investigation, the suspension of head coach Jim Harbaugh (again), the criticism, the doubt - all of it came to a head when he stepped to the microphone on Saturday.
"It was built up," Moore said following the game "Just thinking about our players and how hard they've worked, through all this craziness and all the situations that are going on. For us to come to this environment and win was huge. I just think about [Harbaugh], man. Love that man with all my heart. Just such a great person, great human, great coach. Just wanted to do it for him."
"I'm a pretty calm guy, but there's a lot of emotions," Moore said. "This place is like home to me, home to my family, so it's very deep. I wear my heart on my sleeve, I work extremely hard as we all do. So it meant a lot for us to get this win in this situation."
Meeting with the media on Monday, Harbaugh said that he was watching Moore's postgame comments live, and that it was something he would never forget.
Harbaugh also indicated that Moore would continue to serve as acting head coach in the event that his suspension would be upheld.
"We've got a lot of leaders," Harbaugh said of his staff. "Some people scoff at some of the things I've said. I think I said it way back in April, I mean, ten coaches that will be future head coaches. I think I made a statement that I think four would be head coaches after this year, and Sherrone is - yeah, he's the best of the best. His toughness, mental toughness, physical toughness, and there's nobody that doubts Sherrone Moore and his dedication, his connection, his commitment to the team."
Moore began his coaching career at Michigan as the tight ends coach for his first three seasons (2018-20), then transitioned to offensive line coach and co-O.C. in 2021-22. Under his leadership, the offensive line became the first unit to capture the Joe Moore award in back-to-back seasons. In fact, all five starters on the offensive line in both 2021 and 2022 earned All-Big Ten honors under Moore's leadership.
Literally every single aspect of what Moore has been a part of since arriving at Michigan has improved as a result of his presence, and it's hard to overstate just how critical he's been to Michigan's overall success. Regardless of how the rest of this season plays out, it seems like a pretty safe bet that Sherrone Moore is going to be a full-time head coach in the very near future.
