Michigan Football's 2024 Schedule Just Got A Lot More Interesting
It looks like the Michigan Wolverines just added a big name to the home schedule in 2024, as the Texas Longhorns will reportedly make the trip to Ann Arbor next year as part of their move from the Big 12 to the SEC.
Originally, Michigan was scheduled to play at Texas in 2024, and the Longhorns trip to Ann Arbor was set to take place in 2027. However, a deal to allow Texas and Oklahoma to leave the Big 12 conference one year included a location switch between Michigan and Texas in 2024.
ESPN's Pete Thamel first reported the news late last night.
"A key part of the deal to let OU and Texas out of the Big 12 early was a game flip of a non-conference matchup between Michigan and Texas," Thamel wrote. "Texas will now visit Michigan in 2024 in Ann Arbor and Michigan will return the game in Austin in 2027."
"That game flip was a key driver for Fox agreeing to this deal to let Oklahoma and Texas out of the Big 12 a year early."
The 2024 matchup between Michigan and Texas will mark only the second meeting between the two blueblood programs, with the previous meeting occurring in the 2005 Rose Bowl. In that matchup, Texas edged out Michigan by a score of 38-37.
The Wolverines are now set to host Fresno State (Aug. 31), Texas (Sep. 7), and Arkansas State (Sep. 21) for the non-conference schedule in 2024.
