Although the Michigan Wolverines have never really struggled when it comes to the recruiting trail, the introduction of the transfer portal has proven to be a huge asset to Jim Harbaugh and Co. Heading into the 2023 season, the Wolverines will feature nine transfers - with many of them having a legitimate shot at winning a starting role this fall.

Offense

Jack Tuttle, QB - Indiana (Graduate Student)

  • Earned four varsity letters at Indiana (2019-22)
  • Appeared in 15 games with five starts at quarterback
  • Completed a career total of 104-of-182 pass attempts for 901 yards with five touchdowns and six interceptions
  • Selected as a team captain (2022)
  • Two-time Academic All-Big Ten (2021-22)

AJ Barner, TE - Indiana (Senior)

  • Earned three varsity letters at Indiana (2020-22)
  • Appeared in 30 games with nine starts at tight end
  • Selected as a team captain (2022)
  • Two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (2021-22)
  • Finished his IU career with 361 yards and 4 touchdowns on 42 receptions

Drake Nugent, C - Stanford (Graduate Student)

  • Earned four varsity letters at Stanford (2019-22) 
  • Appeared in 27 games with 24 starts at center
  • Two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention (coaches; 2021-22) and an Academic All-Pac-12 honoree
  • Voted a team captain (2022)
  • Allowed four sacks; combined for 993 pass-blocking snaps in 2021 and 2022
  • Included in the preseason watch lists for both the Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy (2022)

Myles Hinton, OL - Stanford (Senior)

  • Earned three varsity letters at Stanford (2020-22), appearing in 23 games with 16 starts at right tackle
  • Earned Most Outstanding Freshman team award (2020)

LaDarius Henderson, OL - Arizona State (Graduate Student)

  • Earned four varsity letters at Arizona State (2019-20-21-22)
  • Appeared in 33 games with 29 starts (19 at left guard, 10 at left tackle)
  • Voted team captain (2022)
  • Over his last two seasons (2021-22), charged with only two sacks on 619 pass-blocking snaps, per PFF

Defense

Josiah Stewart, EDGE - Coastal Carolina (Junior)

  • Two-year letter winner at Coastal Carolina
  • Appeared in 24 games with 17 starts (six at defensive end; 11 at buck linebacker)
  • Program record-holder in single-season sacks (12.5, 2021)
  • Freshman All-American (2021) by the FWAA, ESPN, 247Sports, The Athletic; honorable mention by Phil Steele
  • Two-time All-Sun Belt (first team, 2021; second team, 2022)
  • Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year semifinalist (2021)
  • Totaled 17 starts in 25 games played with 79 tackles (36 solo) with 25.5 tackles for loss including 16.0 sacks, four forced fumbles and one pass breakup

Ernest Hausmann, LB - Nebraska (Sophomore)

  • Appeared in all 12 games with seven starts at linebacker to earn his first varsity letter; totaled 54 tackles (36 solo) with two tackles for loss, one sack, and one fumble recovery
  • The fifth true freshman linebacker to start a game for the Huskers in the last 30 seasons

Josh Wallace, CB - UMass (Senior)

  • Appeared in 12 games during the 2022 season, recording 41 tackles (32 solo, nine assisted), 3.0 TFL, a fumble recovery, two interceptions, and eight pass breakups
  • Earned Pro Football Network All-Independent team honors as a Second Team CB
  • Voted two-time team captain

James Turner, K - Louisville (Senior)

  • Earned ACC honorable mention accolades after going 20-of-22 on field goals (2022)
  • 20 field goals made were tied for the most in school history (2022)
  • 98 points by kicking were the sixth most in a season in school history (2022)
