Former Michigan Standout Wants To See Will Johnson On Offense
When it comes to the Michigan offense heading into the 2023 season, there certainly isn't a shortage of weapons. Anchored by a veteran offensive line that is loaded with NFL talent, the Wolverines feature a true dual-threat quarterback in JJ McCarthy, the top running back duo in the nation with Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, a pair of tight ends who are future draft picks, and a whole host of wide receivers who can pose significant problems for an opposing defense.
With so many options on the offensive side of the ball, is it possible that we could see one of Michigan's top defenders get in on the action as well? According to at least one former Wolverine, it's certainly something that should be pushed for.
Speaking with Athlazon during a recent interview, former Michigan cornerback Jourdan Lewis said that sophomore cornerback Will Johnson should be pushing for offensive reps.
"He definitely deserves that No. 2. Hopefully he can play a little offense, he needs to push for that," said Lewis. "A lot of guys don't push for that, but that goes a long way when you go to the NFL. He's building a brand too, you've got to push for certain things - especially when you know you're going to be a star. I'm looking for him to have an All-American season."
Johnson definitely lived up to his five-star rating during his freshman season at Michigan. Appearing in all 14 games, the 6-2, 194 pound corner eventually worked himself into the starting lineup late in the year - accounting for 27 tackles, six pass breakups and three interceptions.
The speed and athleticism displayed by Johnson after just one season is hard to ignore, and it's not all that difficult to see a scenario where the Wolverines could utilize his talents on the offensive side of the ball as well.
