BREAKING: Michigan No. 3 In Latest College Football Playoff Rankings
The Michigan Wolverines went on the road last weekend for what was expected to be their toughest matchup of the season so far, squaring off against No. 10 Penn State in Happy Valley. Although Michigan won by a score of 24-15, the game wasn't nearly as close as the final score would seem to indicate.
With head coach Jim Harbaugh finding out he was suspended via social media on the team plane less than 24 hours before the game, it was offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore who took over as acting head coach - and the Wolverines didn't skip a beat. Facing the No. 1 rush defense in the country, Michigan pummeled Penn State into submission by running the ball 32 straight times to finish out the game. In fact, the Michigan offense ran a total of 54 offensive plays on Saturday, and 46 of those were running plays.
Defensively, the Wolverines held PSU quarterback Drew Allar to just 10 completions for 70 yards and 1 touchdown. The Michigan defense also held Penn State to 4-of-14 on third down conversions, and forced the only turnover of the afternoon.
Michigan is now 10-0 on the season, No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, and will look to become the first team in college football history to reach 1,000 program wins this weekend against Maryland.
