Michigan’s NFL Production Appeals To 2022 Offensive Tackle Blake Miller

The 2020 NFL Draft was a clear representation of the success U-M offensive line coach Ed Warriner is having in the player development department, and this stands out to a big 2022 prospect.

After four Michigan offensive linemen were selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, U-M offensive line coach Ed Warriner has been selling the program’s ability to turn high school prospects into professional talents— and recruits are picking up on the message.

One prospect that has taken notice is 2022 Strongsville (Ohio) three-star offensive tackle Blake Miller, who landed a Michigan offer back in January.

“Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and Coach Warriner run an extremely great program at Michigan,” Miller told Wolverine Digest. “Coach Harbaugh and Coach Warriner have both put a bunch of names in the league. Coach Warriner this year got four of his guys in the draft. I was talking to him earlier, and he said all four of them went in the draft. The one that didn’t wasn’t able to go yet… It’s definitely very impressive.”

Before the draft, Miller took a visit to Michigan in March and was given a tour of the campus from the Wolverines coaching staff.

“I got to see all their facilities, the weight room, the locker room, the field, all that,” Miller said. “One part that was important to me was hearing about the academics that Michigan has. They’re one of the best academic schools in the Big Ten, so hearing about their academics is good because me personally, I put a value on academics.”

Throughout the recruiting process, Miller is looking to learn about each prospective school, which includes getting to know the coaching staffs at each program.

“I definitely built a pretty good relationship with Michigan,” Miller said. “All the staff and all the coaches there, I think I’ve built a pretty decent relationship with them. Still building one, but I think the one I have as of now is pretty decent.”

Two other factors that will be heavily considered by Miller are coaching staff stability and the academic opportunities afforded to him.

Standing at 6-6 and 315 pounds, Miller is approaching the recruiting process in a savvy manner, and he is looking to take a similar approach to the field this fall.

“Personally, I’d like to improve on my defensive play recognition and my all-around football I.Q.,” Miller said. “I’d also like to improve on my blocking in space, screen blocking and blocking linebackers.”

On tape, Miller is a powerful offensive tackle that is long, delivers a strong punch and has fundamentally sound kick and poke steps. As a player that blocks through the whistle, Miller is already stout in both run blocking and pass protection heading into his junior season.

“I would describe myself as a very fundamentally sound, technician type player,” Miller said. “I like to compare myself to Joe Thomas. I know I’m nowhere near as good as Joe Thomas, but I model my game after him. He played extremely technically sound, and that’s why he had such a sustainable NFL career.”

On Wednesday, Miller picked up another scholar offer, this one from Auburn. While he has been hearing from coaches consistently during the quarantine, the dominant 2022 lineman had to cancel a spring break tour of multiple colleges.

Look for Michigan to continue to push for Miller and to potentially set up a visit back to campus when the fall football season finally arrives.

Offensive line coach Ed Warriner has had a mass amount of success on the recruiting trail, and he is looking to bring 2022 offensive tackle Blake Miller into the fold as well. What do you think of Miller’s film? Let us know!
