College Football Insider Says Northwestern Should Be In Contact With A Current Michigan Football Coach
On Monday, Northwestern fired its long-time head coach Pat Fitzgerald after more and more horrible details came forth about hazing on the football team.
The Wildcats are coming off of a 1-11 season in 2022 and things don't look much better for Northwestern heading into the 2023 season -- even with a better quarterback situation.
Northwestern named defensive coordinator David Braun as interim head coach and it's unknown when the University will find a new head coach.
After the shocking development with Fitzgerald, speculation started to arise on who may become the new head coach at Northwestern. A few Big Ten assistants came to mind for a few college football insiders. One was Ohio State's Brian Hartline, but the other name that was being floated around was Michigan's offensive coordinator, Sherrone Moore.
247Sports' national recruiting analyst, Steve Wiltfong, was one of the first to mention Sherrone Moore with Northwestern. He also thought Purdue should've reached out to him after the Boilermakers lost Jeff Brohm to Louisville.
There isn't any reason to believe Moore has an interest in the Northwestern job, but Moore is becoming a hot commodity with how young he is and how well Michigan has been doing the past two seasons.
Jim Harbaugh has said in the past he could see five or six assistant coaches that are currently on staff becoming a head coach in the next couple of seasons, and Moore has to be one of the first ones on that list.
Moore has been coaching with Michigan since 2018 where he started as the tight end coach. He is now the sole offensive coordinator with the Wolverines.
