Michigan Picks Up Big Time Commitment
After hosting him on a visit, Michigan has picked up a commitment from Portsmouth (Va.) Churchland four-star athlete Brandyn Hillman.
The 6-1, 191-pounder was once committed to Notre Dame and had offers from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Miami, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, USC and LSU among others.
Hillman's situation is a unique one since he's a 2023 prospect. The versatile athlete had already signed his national letter of intent with the Irish, but was released from it just six days ago.
"Due to personal reasons, I have asked for and been granted my release from my NLI with the University of Notre Dame," Hillman said in a statement. "I would like to thank Coach Freeman and the Notre Dame staff for their interest.
"I ask you to respect my privacy and my family's privacy as I explore my options on where to attend school this fall."
Now, he's a Wolverine and a member of Michigan's 2023 class. He'll arrive on campus this June as a traditional enrollee.
Once Hillman announced his commitment, a long-time recruiting analyst reached out to say, "Huge!".
"That's a former Notre Dame signee who blew up as a senior. He's a do-it-all athlete type. He'll probably play defensive back or wide receiver in college."
Hillman is nasty on tape. Whether he's breaking off huge runs as a dual-threat quarterback or making plays on the ball or smacking a ball carrier as a defensive back, the kid just makes plays. He seems to have the "it" factor to go along with great size, speed, instincts and overall athleticism. Because of the time of year, and the fact that he's an unorthodox afterthought in the 2023 class, this pledge might get lost in the wash a bit, but this is a massive get for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
