All eyes are on 2025 five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood for the '25 cycle, but the Wolverines are in a prime position for another gunslinger.

FIndlay (Ohio) four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery trimmed down his offers to make a top five and Michigan made the cut. The Wolverines are competing with Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, and Penn State.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound QB is the 205th-ranked prospect in the class and the 15th-best quarterback in 2025, according to the Composite.

Montgomery spoke with Chad Simmons with On3 to break down each school and why they made the cut. The Wolverines were the first team to offer him and Montgomery has a great relationship with QB coach Kirk Campbell.

“Michigan is a place I have visited countless times, so every time I am on campus I feel very comfortable. It is close in proximity, so that is nice and I have a great relationship with Coach Kirk Campbell. He is super-relatable, he is easy to talk to and I like him a lot. Then you have Coach Jim Harbaugh. He played at Michigan, he coached in the NFL and he has a lot of great experience.”

Looking at the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, Ohio State previously led for Montgomery with a 22% chance, but the Buckeyes didn't make the top five. It now appears Michigan leads with a 20% chance.

Montgomery hopes to make a decision before his senior year, so maybe during basketball season. He plans on visiting Michigan for The Game vs. Ohio State. His brother, Luke, committed to the Buckeyes last cycle.
