Typically every cycle that goes by, Michigan football gets itself an elite running back. Zach Charbonnet, Blake Corum, Donovan Edwards, Jordan Marshall, and the Wolverines have a pair of solid running backs committed in the 2025 cycle as of now. Michigan, who could be looking at another in the '25 cycle, is shifting its attention to the 2026 recruiting cycle to find that next great Wolverines' running back.

Arguably, the top two targets for the Wolverines' '2026 big board are running backs Savion Hiter and Javian Osborne. But you can add another running back to the list of names to watch for.

The maize and blue were recently put into a top group for '26 running back Deshonne Redeaux. He made a final 12 list that included Michigan along with Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, USC, and Washington.

Redeaux hails from Westlake Village (CA) Oaks Christian. According to 247Sports' Composite, he is considered the 73rd-ranked prospect, the No. 7 running back, and the No. 11-ranked prospect in California. There aren't any early predictions in for where Redeaux may go to school, but over on On3, UCLA has a lead on the Recruiting Prediction Machine. The Bruins have an 88.7% chance to land the talented running back.

Here's what 247Sports' Greg Biggins has to say about Redeaux -- who reminds him of Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs.

One of the nation's top two-sport athletes. Not just a dominant running back but a top sprinter as well. Personal best 10.42-100m/21.32-100m as a freshman but had to sit out sophomore track season due to an injury. Speed jumps out on the football field as well. A true home run threat from anywhere on the field. Has some wiggle to him, can make a defender miss in the open field and runs hard. Has a solid frame, strong upper body and carries 195 pounds really well. Has a physical edge to him, played corner as a freshman and would lay guys out although he focused on running back as a sophomore. Decisive runner, doesn't dance around or try to be too cute, hits the hole and isn't afraid to initiate contact. Catches the ball well out of the backfield, not just screens but wheel routes and deep balls down the slot. Junior season will be big for him to show he can be a durable, every down back but the ceiling is high and Redeaux projects as an easy high major Power 4 prospect.
